President Trump Plans New AI Czar, ‘AI Force,’ Vows Not To ‘Stifle’ Industry

President Donald Trump announced plans to appoint a new artificial intelligence adviser and establish an “AI force,” expanding his administration’s approach to the technology while rejecting calls for government regulations targeting the industry.  

He did not provide details about the responsibilities of the new “AI czar,” the purpose of the proposed AI force, or how either initiative would be implemented.  

If the appointment moves forward, Trump would be naming his second AI czar. Venture capitalist David Sacks previously held the position before stepping down in the spring and moving into an external advisory role.  

Last week, Trump pushed back against technology experts who have warned that advanced AI could pose catastrophic risks to humanity, arguing that existing criminal and civil laws were sufficient to address harmful uses.  

“We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, his social media platform. “Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows! However, we will also be looking for BAD, and we can do that, very easily, with our already existing Criminal and Civil Justice System.”  

Some AI researchers have publicly issued far more dire assessments. Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon announced his resignation and said the “people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade.”  

Anthropic scientist Evan Hubinger agreed publicly with Coxon.  

“We really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans,” Hubinger wrote on X. “I personally think it is >10% within the next decade.”  

During a phone conversation with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang at the All-In Summit in Los Angeles, Trump dismissed such warnings as a “hoax” and rejected concerns that robots would take over the world.  

“I’m telling you, it’s all a hoax,” President Trump said. “The data centers are great, and they make people wealthy, and they make states wealthy, and it’s the oil of the next 20–25 years.”  

President Trump also said opposition to rapid AI infrastructure expansion could benefit China or political opponents, saying critics are “playing right into the hands of a lot of people that don’t want to see it happen.”
