Israeli Businessman Found Dead in Addis Ababa Restaurant, Poisoning Suspected
By The Media Line Staff
Ethiopian authorities are investigating the death of a 48-year-old Israeli businessman who was found inside a restaurant restroom stall in Addis Ababa, with possible poisoning among the main lines of inquiry and several suspects detained for interrogation.
The businessman, identified as Rada, had been dining at the restaurant with a group of people before leaving the table to go to the restroom. When he did not return, his companions began looking for him.
Rada was found dead inside a toilet cubicle approximately 40 minutes after he left the group.
Police in Ethiopia have detained several suspects for questioning as they investigate the circumstances surrounding his death. Authorities are examining the possibility that Rada was poisoned, although the official cause of death has not yet been determined.
An autopsy is expected to be conducted to establish the cause of death.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry and the Israeli Embassy in Addis Ababa are in contact with Rada’s family following his death. Israeli officials are also working with local authorities to arrange for his body to be brought back to Israel for burial.
The investigation remains focused on determining what happened to Rada during the period between his departure from the table and the discovery of his body in the restroom. Ethiopian authorities have not confirmed that poisoning caused his death.
Efforts to repatriate Rada’s body are continuing as authorities conduct their investigation and work to determine the cause of death. The body will likely need to undergo an autopsy before it can be returned to Israel.
