Israel Assesses Iran Applying Oct. 7 Lessons to Plan Multi-Front Attack

Israel believes Iran is preparing for a coordinated attack against Israel involving Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthis and pro-Iranian militias in Iraq, with Tehran seeking to bring multiple fronts into a future conflict from the outset, Maariv reported.

The reported plan would have Iran and its regional allies act against Israel simultaneously, applying lessons from the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack.

Arab media reports now indicate that Tehran is considering incorporating the different fronts into its planning from the beginning rather than relying on them to join after hostilities start.

A published Israel Defense Forces assessment has also identified renewed coordination between Hamas and Hezbollah with Iranian assistance. The groups have begun coordinating increased activity in efforts to pressure Israel from both the north and south.

Hamas launched that assault without other fronts joining simultaneously or operating under full coordination. Hezbollah later began firing on northern Israel but did not launch a large-scale attack alongside Hamas on Oct. 7.

Documents captured from Hamas in Gaza after the attack indicated that Yahya Sinwar had sought a broader regional confrontation. One planning document called for “connecting and preparing the external fronts” and identified Lebanon, Syria, and Sinai, while also
addressing communications during routine periods and wartime.

Published American and Israeli assessments indicated that Iran and Hezbollah did not have advance knowledge of the full details of Hamas’ plan or the precise timing of the Oct. 7 attack. Sinwar reportedly anticipated that the success of Hamas’ initial assault
would bring Iran and Hezbollah into a broader conflict.

For the current plan, Senior Quds Force officials have reportedly discussed expanding the conflict with commanders from Hezbollah, the Houthis, and Iraqi militias. Two senior Revolutionary Guard officers said Quds Force officials held conference calls with
commanders representing the three fronts during a previous lull, while Iranian advisers also worked with them on the ground.

Recent reports have also indicated that Iran is seeking to accelerate the production of missiles and drones while rebuilding capabilities that were damaged.
