He was hurt Sunday, less than a year after the previous injury that sidelined the Washington Commanders quarterback most of the second half of last season. Coach Dan Quinn said imaging showed the dislocation but no fracture for Daniels, who was taken off the field on a cart at the end of the first half of Commanders’ 37-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Daniels dislocated the elbow in a blowout loss to Seattle last season. That injury occurred when Daniels used his non-throwing arm while trying to brace himself, and the same thing happened against the Cowboys.

Bears quarterback Caleb Williams carted off with a right hamstring injury

CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams left the team’s 9-3 loss to Minnesota in the fourth quarter with a right hamstring injury. Williams got hurt while scrambling toward the sideline deep in Vikings territory with about 7 1/2 minutes left. The 24-year-old Williams was helped off the field. Williams was 15 for 26 for 138 yards with an interception. The No. 1 pick in the 2024 draft also had five carries for 42 yards in rainy conditions at Soldier Field. The 49ers showed no signs of fatigue after beating the Los Angeles Rams 27-7 in the opener in Australia and began the season with back-to-back wins of at least 20 points for the first time in franchise history. They scored touchdowns on their first five drives of the game. Miami was dominated after spending the week by practicing in nearby Napa after losing the opener in Las Vegas.

Daniels was hurt after left guard Chris Paul stepped on his foot as he backed away from center and Daniels used his left arm to brace himself. Daniels also dislocated his elbow last November against Seattle.

Cubs 3B Alex Bregman sent to hospital for tests after being hit in face by foul ball while on deck

CINCINNATI (AP) — Chicago Cubs third baseman Alex Bregman left Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds after being struck in the face by a foul ball while standing near the on-deck circle. Bregman was taken to a hospital for X-rays and CT scans. There was no decision yet on whether he would travel with the team back to Chicago following its 9-1 win. In the fourth inning, Michael Busch checked his swing and fouled off a pitch from Reds right-hander Luis Mey that struck Bregman. He immediately jogged toward the Cubs dugout with his hand over his left eye. Bregman was escorted by training staff into the clubhouse.

Man City wins 8-goal thriller against Sunderland, Man United rescues late draw

A chaotic match at the Etihad Stadium saw City twice squander the lead and Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey outshine Erling Haaland with a hat trick. Manchester United left it late to salvage a 1-1 draw at Fulham and avoid three straight defeats in all competitions. Alexander Isak scored his fourth goal of the season as Liverpool beat Bournemouth 1-0. Leeds and Crystal Palace drew 0-0.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Tyler Shough scored on a fourth-down sneak with 1:28 remaining, and the New Orleans Saints rallied to a 24-17 win over the Baltimore Ravens. New Orleans had first down from the 2 before a penalty and a costly incomplete pass. Spaun made four birdies on his last five holes for a 67. That turned into a two-shot victory when Manuel Elvira chopped up the 18th hole for a double bogey when a par would have forced a playoff. Elvira wound up in a four-way tie for second with Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott and PGA champion Aaron Rai. Spaun says he played with a chip on his shoulder wanting to prove he should’ve been picked.

Mike Burton, 3-time Olympic swimming champion, dies at 79 after battle with Alzheimer’s

Mike Burton, a three-time Olympic swimming champion, has died. He was 79. His son, Eric, announced his death on Facebook, noting his father’s battle with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Burton was the first American to win gold in the 1,500-meter freestyle at consecutive Olympics, achieving the feat in 1968 and 1972. He set a world record in Munich. His achievements were overshadowed by teammate Mark Spitz’s seven gold medals and a terrorist attack on the athletes’ village. Burton was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1977. He later coached swimming teams in Iowa, Washington, and Montana.
