Rep. Gill Has Plan to End Birth Tourism

(SRN NEWS) – Texas Rep. Brandon Gill’s proposed “Citizenship Act” is drawing sharp conservative praise for taking a hard line on what supporters call abuse of America’s citizenship rules. Gill’s legislation—unveiled alongside documents described in a recent report—would limit birthright citizenship for children born in the U.S. to people who enter illegally during a declared “invasion,” a term conservatives argue reflects the scale of unlawful border crossings.

Backers say the measure targets “birth tourism,” arguing that a child’s citizenship should not be a backdoor consequence of illegal entry. They also argue the bill is common-sense reform: when individuals ignore immigration law, the system should not reward them with automatic, lifelong benefits for their families.

Conservative commentators further contend that the proposal is a response to courts and policymakers who, in their view, have not sufficiently accounted for real-world enforcement failures at the border. By pushing legislation rather than symbolic rhetoric, Gill’s bill is being framed as a necessary step to restore order, deter illegal crossings, and ensure that citizenship reflects lawful participation in the nation.

Critics will likely challenge the plan in court, but conservatives insist the debate is overdue and that Congress must act.
