(SRN NEWS)-( ) Clergymen, family advocates and other critics of gambling are amplifying a warning from a clinical psychologist in New York City. Dr. Michael Adler says he’s seeing a major spike in gambling disorders in children and young adults. Adler reports treating patients as young as eleven, as well as many in their teens and early twenties. He says the youngsters are accessing their parents’ credit cards or getting friends to put up the money, adding that they are difficult to treat because they’re not mature and have a “underdeveloped prefrontal cortex”, leading to lack of impulse control. They also tend to believe that their parents will bail them out.
( ) The manager of a Jewish deli in South Jersey is promising to fight a 1,000 dollar fine from the state for no displays to let customers know it is not a kosher establishment. The Kibitz Room in Cherry Hill received the fine this month after state Consumer Affairs inspectors paid a visit. The violation notice states that the restaurant describes itself on its website as a “New York-style Jewish deli,” but said food spots using terms like “Hebrew,” “Jewish” or “Kosher-style” have to clearly say if the food is kosher or not. The Kibitz Room ranks eighth on NJ.com’s most recent list of New Jersey’s best Jewish delis.
( ) A coalition of pastors from Dallas is backing GOP Senate candidate Ken Paxton. The group includes Richard Ellis, who leads the city’s Reunion Church, as well as former State Representative Nate Schatzline (SHATZ-line), who is now a pastor at Mercy Culture Church in Fort Worth. The “Pastors for Paxton” coalition will lead their communities in prayer ahead of the election. Paxton is in a tough fight for the Senate seat with Democrat James Talarico, a Texas state representative who is receiving national funding. The latest polls show a dead heat between the two with two weeks to go before the midterms.
