Oct 10 (Field Level Media) – Veteran defenseman Mathew Dumba announced his retirement on Friday after 13 NHL seasons.

A first-round selection (seventh overall) of Minnesota in the 2012 NHL Draft, Dumba played 10 seasons for the Wild.

The winner of the 2019-20 King Clancy Memorial Trophy, which is given annually for leadership qualities on and off the ice and humanitarian work in the community, played 11 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2025-26 before his contract was terminated in April.

“Matt Dumba is officially hanging up his skates after 748 NHL career games,” the NHL Players Association posted on social media Friday. “Wishing the former blue liner and 2019-20 King Clancy Memorial Trophy winner the best of luck in his retirement!”

The 32-year-old Regina, Saskatchewan, native tallied 261 points (85 goals, 176 assists) with the Wild (2013-14 to 2022-23), Arizona Coyotes (2023-24), Tampa Bay Lightning (2023-24), Dallas Stars (2024-25) and Pittsburgh. He produced five goals and 10 assists in 54 career playoff games, 49 of which came with Minnesota.

He notched career highs in goals (14), assists (36) and points (50) during the 2017-18 season.
