After missing two seasons, RHP Joe Musgrove added to Padres’ roster

Sep 29 (Field Level Media) – After not pitching the past two seasons following Tommy John surgery, right- hander Joe Musgrove was added to the San Diego Padres’ postseason roster on Tuesday.

With Musgrove returning from the 60-day injured list, the Padres opened a 40-man roster spot by placing catcher Rodolfo Duran on the 60-day IL with an unspecified injury.

San Diego opens its wild-card series Tuesday at home against the Chicago Cubs.

Musgrove, 33, last pitched in the 2024 wild-card round when he left his start against the Atlanta Braves with elbow tightness. He eventually underwent Tommy John surgery, missed the 2025 season, then had setbacks in recovery that limited him to four minor league rehab outings this year.

Over nine career seasons, Musgrove has compiled a 66-62 record with a 3.73 ERA in 206 appearances (180 starts) for the Houston Astros (2016-17), Pittsburgh Pirates (2018-20) and Padres. He was an All-Star with San Diego in 2022.

A former first-round draft pick by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2011, Musgrove is a native of the San Diego area and attended high school at Grossmont in El Cajon, Calif.
