Hadassah Opens Medical Center in Cyprus, Plans Hospital Near Nicosia

By The Media Line Staff

Jerusalem-based Hadassah Medical Center formally inaugurated a medical facility in Limassol, Cyprus, on Thursday, October 15, expanding its services beyond Israel through cooperation with Cypriot partners and announcing plans for a hospital near Nicosia.

The Limassol center began receiving patients weeks before the ceremony. It combines locally based physicians and healthcare staff with professional support from Hadassah specialists in Jerusalem, bringing Israeli medical expertise to patients on the Mediterranean island.

Services include magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), cardiology, neurology, laboratory testing, specialist consultations, rehabilitation, and preventive care. The facility operates as a medical center rather than a full inpatient hospital.

Hadassah said planning was underway for a separate hospital in the Nicosia area that would provide inpatient treatment and support medical research and professional training. The institution did not announce a construction budget or completion date at Thursday’s inauguration.

President Isaac Herzog welcomed the opening in a message to the ceremony, describing it as part of the expanding relationship between Israel and Cyprus.

“The opening of the center symbolizes a bridge between our peoples and between dedicated professionals committed to improving human life,” Herzog said.

Prof. Yoram Weiss, Hadassah’s director-general, said the expansion would allow the institution to work more closely with Cypriot medical professionals and serve patients across the region.

“The boundaries of medicine should extend far beyond the walls of our hospitals,” Weiss said.

The ceremony followed an international medical conference in Limassol focused on artificial intelligence, precision medicine, and developments in patient care, with participants from Cyprus, Israel, and Greece.

Hadassah operates major hospitals at Ein Kerem and Mount Scopus in Jerusalem and has expanded outpatient services to other Israeli cities, including Beit Shemesh, Ramat Gan, and Netivot.

The Cyprus initiative adds healthcare to a bilateral relationship already encompassing energy, defense, tourism, and scientific cooperation. Limassol, a major coastal business and tourism center, is also home to part of Cyprus’s growing Israeli community.
