Big Swell From Hurricane Polo Prompts Coastal Flood Advisory, High Surf Advisory

(Los Angeles, CA) — Much of the Southern California coast is under a coastal flood advisory and a high surf advisory. It’s due to a huge, potentially damaging swell expected from Hurricane Polo, which remains well offshore. Los Angeles County beaches, the Malibu coast, Orange County coastal areas, Ventura County beaches, and the Catalina and Santa Barbara islands will be under the advisories through Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. The National Weather Service is calling for large, breaking waves between four to seven feet, and dangerous rip currents. Home and business owners in places like Long Beach have been piling up sandbags and boarding up windows and doors to protect their properties from flooding. That area and several other coastal communities already suffered damage earlier this month from the large swell triggered by Hurricane Marie.
