SCOTUS Blocks Missouri Congressional Map Again

(Washington, DC) — The U.S. Supreme Court is again blocking Missouri from using a Republican-backed congressional map in the November midterm election. Justices ordered the state to use its 2022 map, reversing a federal appeals court ruling that would have allowed boundaries adopted by the Republican-led Legislature last year. The 2025 map divided Kansas City among several districts to make Democratic Representative Emanuel Cleaver’s seat harder for Democrats to retain. Friday’s order marked the third time this month the Supreme Court intervened with the same result. The court warned that switching maps close to the election could cause “electoral chaos” because absentee, military, and overseas voting had already begun using older boundaries.
